Lana Del Rey has conquered the challenge of becoming one of this year’s most admired musicians and is now on her way to becoming an incontestable muse of fashion. Her comprehensive retro chic style has captured the attention of many beyond musical boundaries. With the growing convergence of fashion and music, many fashion labels now opt collaborate with trending musicians and utilize popular artist for their ad campaigns. This year alone we’ve witnessed Alexander Wang take heed to upcoming rappers Azealia Banks and A$AP Rocky, as well as a similar hip-hop-to-high fashion collaboration between Mark McNairy and Danny Brown. H&M seems to be the next hoping on the pop culture train, as they select Lana Del Rey as the face of their Fall 2012 Collection. H&M creative director spoke on choosing Del Rey for this season’s campaign, stating, ”Lana is totally unique, and we wanted to create a print and film campaign that’s just as special…The mood is very LA noir and is inspired by our Fall collection, which also fits with Lana’s own personal style.” Photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin the campaign showcases Del Rey modeling a series of pieces from the brand’s seasonal offering, including floral print pants and a structured peplum blouse. Images for the campaign will be accompanied by a music video for Del Rey’s cover of “Blue Velvet,” directed by Johan Renck. The video is set to debut on September 19th.
